God’s Covenant With America
From Birth through the Nineteenth Century

God’s Covenant With America, the first of a two book series presents Bill's belief that God made a covenant with this nation and that from the shores of this nation, freedom and truth will ring throughout the whole world, ushering in the day of the bride. In order to reach that conclusion, there are questions about America that must be asked:

Does God love America?
Did God make a covenant with our forefathers?
Do we see God's miraculous intervention in the history of this nation?
Does God rule in the affairs of men?
Will America be instrumental in the consummation of the ages?

The defining events in America's history show the hand of God. This book traces those defining events and demonstrates how God intervened at each critical intersection in the history of America through the 19th Century to prepare it for its present purpose of demonstrating to the world God's principles of freedom and truth.

Bill’s View of History
“I view history in terms of hope, promise, purpose and covenant. My view is centered in three things: first, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ; second, God’s promise of a new day in which His Son will be glorified on the earth through a body of his chosen ones expressing the glory of His Son; and third, a national setting in which freedom will present opportunities to express this hope and promise. I see that history counts down to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and counts forward from that day to the consummation of the ages. The hand of God is evident in each of the great historical events and the shaping of this nation.

One of the chapters of Covenant that was most difficult to write, but most rewarding, was the chapter that I entitled “The Brothers’ War,” which describes America's Civil War. I believe that this chapter demonstrates how close the South came to either victory or secession. During the war, Lee's two great efforts to move north were thwarted in the first instance by three cigars and in the second instance at Gettysburg, when Lee's well-conceived plan was not implemented by his officers. God had other plans for America. The Civil War demonstrates that great men shape history. Abraham Lincoln, who was reviled by both the North and the South, and Robert E. Lee, who was esteemed by both the North and South, united America in ways that could not have been anticipated.

In Covenant, I presented the dramatic revivals in America’s history. The “First Great Awakening” prepared America for its declaration of independence. The “Second Great Awakening” (sometimes referred to as the “Second and Third Awakenings”) and the layman’s revival of the mid eighteenth century prepared America for its civil war.

The journey of America’s history through the nineteenth century demonstrates how God positioned this nation for the great challenges of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.”
